  • Monday, August 29th
    • Hand back and go over the Chapter 1 Section 1 - 2 Quiz. (I keep all quizzes and tests.)
    • Read Chapter 1 Section 6 about Computer Ethics ... slides 113 & 114 from the Chapter 1 PPT Lecture and then answer Questions 1 & 2 on Worksheet #4.
    • Discuss Questions 1 & 2 on Worksheet #4.
    • Read Chapter 1 Section 6 about Copyright Laws . ... slide 115 and then answer Questions 3 on Worksheet #4.
    • Discuss Question 3 on Worksheet #4.
    • Short review for Chapter 1 Sections 3 - 6 Quiz next class. Here is the Chapter 1 Section 3 - 6 Quiz Breakdown:
      • 3 TRUE/FALSE Questions
      • 9 Multiple Choice Questions
      • 1 four-part Base 10 to Base 16 conversion problem with a quad conversion to binary and binary check.
      • Quiz questions will come from these slides: 95-98, 101-105, 107-108, 113-115.
    • Go over the BadFormatting.java file and how to make it easily readable using Control-A or Command-A and then Control-I or Command-I.
    • Continue work on the non-graded program QuartsToLiterConverter. It is in your ch02 package folder. Here is Sample output of the QuartsToLitersConverter program.

  • Day 2 (Tuesday for E-Period Section and Wednesday for F Period)
    • Chapter 1 Section 3 - 6 Quiz ... 18pts ... you will get only 15 minutes for the quiz.
    • Complete the BestFriends.java program (non-graded ... you can work together). BestFriends Sample Output.
    • Discuss Chapter 2 Sections 6 ... Slides 55 - 57 of ... about Java Errors and run the demo program SyntaxAndCompileErrors.java.
    • Discuss Chapter 2 Section 7: slides 58 - 69 of the Chapter 2 Lecture while running the following programs:
      • AppletWindow1.java - Read and study the code and run the program and view the output.
      • AppletWindow2.java - Read and study the code and run the program and view the output. Make the changes to the code as specified in the file and then run the program again and view the output.
      • Run the GUIWindow3 program and see the resulting output window with the five regions.
      • Modify the GUIWindow3 program so that the NORTH and SOUTH regions are yellow and the EAST and WEST regions are green and the CENTER region is black. Here is what your final output should look like ---> AppletWindow3 Output Key.
      • Discuss GridLayouts.
      • Run the GUIWindow4 program and see the resulting output window with the four regions colored WHITE, BLACK, GRAY, WHITE.
      • Modify the GUIWindow4 program so as follows:
        • Use a size of 800 by 600.
        • Change the GridLayout to 4 rows and 2 columns.
        • Keep the first four regions colored WHITE, BLACK, GRAY, WHITE. Color the last four regions MAGENTA, CYAN, PINK, and GREEN.
        • Here is what your final output should look like ---> AppletWindow4 Output Key.
      • Demonstrate how to get the SimpleCircleCalculator program file from email and save it to JavaPrograms/ch02. This is an INDEPENDENT program that you will complete and email me for a grade later in class.
      • Begin coding the SimpleCircleCalculator program INDEPENDENTLY. Here is Sample Output of SimpleCircleCalculator with two sample runs of the program.
    • Assignments:
      • Make sure you have read all of Chapter 2 Sections 1 - 6 of the Chapter 2 PPT Online Web Lecture.
      • Begin reviewing the questions and answers of the Chapter 2 Study Guide. Chapter 2 Quiz is Friday.
      • Complete coding the SimpleCircleCalculator program INDEPENDENTLY by the first of class tomorrow.

 

 

  • Friday, September 2nd
    • Begin Chapter 2 Take Home Test. It is due next Tuesday and must be completed INDEPENDENTLY.
    • Hand back Chapter 1 Section 3 - 6 Quiz.
    • Assignments:
      • No Homework.
