Follow these steps to complete your part in the Exploring Explorers quick reference guide.

  • Research your explorer by clicking on him to find websites about your explorer.
  • Because there is so much to learn about your explorer, you might decide it is best to work as a team and divide the work into specific roles. Read through the following roles and job descriptions. Choose which role each member of your team will take. You may have two jobs.
    • Map Maker
      • Research and develop a map showing pertinent locations
    • Biographer
      • Research and write about the explorer's background
    • Historian
      • Research and write about the explorer's expeditions
    • Evaluator
      • The success of the expeditions and develop a timeline of the explorer's life
  • Research using the suggested resources.
    • Take detailed notes.
    • Remember to find information to justify the value of this explorer's accomplishments for the summary statements in your presentation.
    • Keep a record of the information of your sources for your bibliography.
  • Use the Kidspiration diagram to help you take notes and organize them for your presentation.
  • Develop your draft for your editor's approval using PowerPoint. Revise. Edit.
    • NOTE: In this step, you should ONLY have text on your slides.
      • DO NOT add slide backgrounds, colors, fonts, animations, pictures and slide transitions yet. That will come in step 9.
  • Draw, select, copy/paste and scan your final pictures, drawings, and maps.
  • Edit, spell check, and check slides.
  • Develop the Timeline using Kidspiration.
  • Finalize the PowerPoint presentation.
    • Add slide backgrounds
    • Add slide transitions
    • Add pictures/animations
    • Add colors/fonts/WordArt
